Audrey Mae (High) Briggs

Audrey Mae High Briggs, 87, of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of Hickory, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 20, 2017, in her home.

She was born September 22, 1929, in Ingram, a daughter of Albert and Clara Freese High.

Mrs. Briggs was a graduate of Langley High School and a business school.

She was a member of the Hickory U.P. Church and served as a deacon and choir member.

Mrs. Briggs had worked at Boggs and Buhl department store where she worked in sales and enjoyed dressing up as the Easter Bunny for the children, and she worked in the accounting department at Duquesne Light before she was married.  Later in life she became a care taker for the elderly and retired as a custodian in the Fort Cherry School District.

She was active with the Girl Scouts, volunteered at Camp Agape and the Hickory Apple Festival, was a storyteller in grade schools and was known as Mother Goose, and was a member of the Washington County Daughters of the Revolution.

Mrs. Briggs was a charitable woman and quick to help a friend.

On June 18, 1955, she married Roy Briggs, who died April 5, 1994.

Surviving are: three children, Thomas Briggs and wife Nicolina Garofalo of South Park, Alice Briggs Rosenberger and husband Joel of Leesburg, VA, and Catherine Briggs of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Nathaniel Thomas, Kayla Rose and Juliana Mae Briggs; a sister, Doris Daniels of Carnegie; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, a son who died in infancy, Bruce Wayne Briggs, and a sister Marilyn Daniels.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Thursday, May 25, in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd, Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, 724-745-2350.  A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, in Hickory U.E.P. Church, 210 Main Street, Hickory, PA 15340.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Hickory U.E.P. Church, P.O. Box 97, Hickory, PA 15340.
