Bernice Freeman, 84, of Columbus, GA, a longtime resident of Canonsburg, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017 in the St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, GA, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born February 7, 1933 in Lawrence, a daughter of William And Jessie Jackson Gill.
Mrs. Freeman was a member of the Parkwood Baptist Church in Columbus, GA and former member of the Refuge Church of God in Christ, Canonsburg.
With her husband, they owned and operated I.W. Roofing in Canonsburg.
Mrs. Freeman was an avid traveler and belonged to the Senior Citizens in Columbus.
Her husband, Isaac Freeman died February 3, 1994.
Surviving are five children, Cynthia Johnson (Lovell), Melvin Brown (Virginia), Jessie Mae Johnson and Glenda Smith (Wayne) all of Canonsburg and Darla Freeman-LeVay of Tampa, FL; four sisters, Irene Henderson of Sacremento, CA, Anna Mae Hurd of Washington, Geraldine Fullum of Lawrence and Karen Woods of Pittsburgh; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and best friend and traveling partner Harriet Robinson.
Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are a son Isaac W. Freeman, Jr. who died in infancy; two brothers, William and Ernest Gill; and a sister, Darlene Hickey.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Thursday, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342 where services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 15, 2017. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray
