Charles R. Scears

Charles R. Scears, 77, of Canonsburg, died Thursday, May 19, 2016 in his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born November 22, 1938 in Canonsburg, a son of Charles R. and Jessie Irene Cale Scears.

Mr. Scears had worked at the former American Brakeshoe in Houston, was head of maintenance at South Hills Convalescent Center, worked security at Washington Hospital and worked for 19 years at Mayview State Hospital where he was the fire and security officer.

He enjoyed camping and fishing and loved the time he spent with his family at their camp on Lake Wilhelm.  For many years, he served with the Canonsburg Volunteer Fire Department.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

On August 2, 1958 he married Barbara Hott who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Debra Karmazin (Michael) of Houston and Diana Karmazin (Paul) of Canonsburg; six grandchildren, Melissa Suwalski (Mike), Michael Karmazin (Karen), Jason Scears (Breanne), Jocelyn Scears, Paul Karmazin and Allen Karmazin (Aleesha); five great grandchildren; a brother, Larry Scears (Nancy) of Houston; three sisters, Eleanor Yarkosky of Strabane, Susie McGary of Washington and Nina Almo of Eighty Four; a sister-in-law, Sherry Scears of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a son, Charles E. Scears; three brothers, Frank, Gary and Clayton Scears; and two sisters, Christine Bizzack and Gail Marie Scears.

At the request of the deceased, all services were private.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342.
