Dorothy L. Crawford (Engel) Mrenak

Dorothy L. Crawford Mrenak, 99, of Marianna, formerly of Canonsburg, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016.

She was born April 12, 1917, on the Engel family farm in Mt. Pleasant Twp., a daughter of the late Andrew H. And Joan Phillips Engel.

Mrs. Mrenak attened Cecil Township schools.

She was an avid reader before macular degeneration took her eye sight.  She also loved to play cards and polka dance.

 Mrs. Mrenak spent her final years under the loving care of Betty White at White’s Private Care Home, Marianna.

On December 25, 1936, she married John W. Crawford, who passed away January 29, 1954. Then on September 21, 1957, she married George W. Mrenak, who passed away January 9, 1990.

Surviving are: two daughters, Carolyn Crawford Thorne of Pittsburgh and Joyce L. Paul (Scott) of Lone Pine; two granddaughters, Denise D. Rice (Karl) of Lone Pine and Susan L. Stiner (Tim) of Washington; a great granddaughter, Dr. Alexandra R. Rice (fiancé, Dr. Keith Y. Fleishmann) of Fairmont, WV; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to her parents are six brothers, Ervin, McCarrell, Harvey, Andrew, Henry and Herman Engel; and a sister, Hazel Dewalt.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Sunday in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016, with Rev. Dr. Gary L. Schneider officiating.  Interment will follow in Venice Cemetery, Cecil.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a local library of one’s choice.
