Helen J. (Swontek) Mazza

Helen J. Mazza, 80, of Houston, died Wednesday, April 12, 2017, in Canonsburg Hospital.

She was born April 30, 1936, in Houston, a daughter of the late John and Anna Hamschin Swontek.

Mrs. Mazza was a 1954 graduate of Chartiers High School.

She had worked as the secretary for the Psychology Department of Mayview State Hospital for 18 years, until her retirement in 1998.

 Mrs. Mazza was a member of South Hills Bible Chapel, McMurray.

She had volunteered at the Donnell House in Washington and for Meals on Wheels.

Mrs. Mazza enjoyed playing cards and maintained a card club with friends since 1959.

On April 28, 1956, she married Anthony Mazza, who passed away on March 10, 2000, after 40 years of marriage.

Surviving are: a daughter, Pam Mazza and her husband, Chris Cyrway of Great Falls, VA; a son, John Mazza and his wife, Julie of Bloomfield Hills, MI; and two granddaughters, Sara and Emily Cyrway.

She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Swontek, a sister, Mary Gall, and two sisters who died in infancy.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Monday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 18, 2017.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
