Howard J. "Butch" Beatty

Howard J. “Butch” Beatty, 68, of Meadow Lands, died Friday, March 3, 2017 in the Washington Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born May 21, 1948, in Washington, a son of James and Ruth Bigler Beatty.

Mr. Beatty was a graduate of Washington High School and received a degree from Penn Commercial in HVAC.

He was a 20 year veteran of the US Navy and retired from the reserves in May of 1987, where he earned his certification as a Journeyman Electrician.

Mr. Beatty had worked for McGraw-Edison and Cooper Power Systems in Canonsburg, Cooper Crouse-Hinds in Washington and retired from the Veterans Administration Medical Center Oakland on June 30, 2014 where he was a HVAC technician.

Mr. Beatty was a member of American Legion Post #902 in Houston and SNPJ Lodge 138 in Strabane.

He enjoyed working on cars and music, particularly country and oldies.

On August 10, 1968, he married Susan A. Lesjak who survives.

Also surviving are: three sons, Howard James “Jim” Beatty Jr. (Renae) of Bridgeville, Todd Beatty (Amelia) of Eighty Four and Lee Beatty (Jennifer Ziemianski) of Houston; four grandchildren, Allison, Ashley, Kacie and Brynn Beatty, with twins expected in July; a brother, Kevin Beatty (Sondra Dennison) of Washington; a sister, Dru Ann Thomas (Terry) of Waynesburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 pm Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Monday and 10 to 11 am, the time of service on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342, where a Blessing Service will be held with Rev. Carmen D’Amico officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery Canonsburg.  Full military rites will be accorded by the VFW Post #191 Honor Guard and the US Navy.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 1000 Liberty Avenue, Room 1606, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
