Jean E. Bier, 80, of Meadow Lands, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 in Transitions Health Care, Washington.

She was born June 1, 1936 in Washington, a daughter of Anthony and Johanna Kurucz Bier.

Miss Bier was a 1955 graduate of Chartiers High School.

She had worked in the lab at Washington Hospital and for 20 years she worked as a secretary for the Canon-McMillan School District retiring in 2002.

Miss Bier was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadow Lands where she belonged to the Rosary Altar Society, the Christian Mothers and Guild and served on the Respect For Life Committee.  In 2002, she was ordained 3rd Order Franciscan.

She volunteered at the Washington Hospital and the Chartiers-Houston Communty Library.  She was a Red Hatter, and belonged to the Chartiers-Houston Senior Citizens, Canon-McMillan Retired Teachers, Washington County Chapter of School Retirees and the former Chartiers Township Volunteer Fire Department Woman’s Auxiliary.

Surviving are a brother, David Bier (Joanne) of Washington; a sister, Gloria Likar (Edmund) of Houston; a sister-in-law, Mary Bier of Houston; two nephews, Paul Likar (Julie) and Mark Likar (Laura); a niece, Susan Likar Piecknick; three great nephews, Alex and Joshua Likar and Ryan Piecknick; two great nieces, Rachel Likar and Sarah Piecknick; her dear care givers, Janet Rominski and Millie Hendricks; her God Son, Joseph Warco; her close friend of many years, Grace Matyuf; and many cousins, friends and care givers.

Deceased are a brother John A. Bier; and two sisters, Anna Bier in infancy and her twin Joan Marlene Bier who died at the age of seven.

She also leaves her best friend and companion, her dog Ewing.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Wednesday in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00, Thursday, December 1, 2016 in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands, with Rev. Carmen D’Amico as celebrant.  Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Washington.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Washington Area Humane Society, P.O. Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330; The American Cancer Society, 331 S. Main St., Washington, PA 15301; or the American Heart Association, 5455 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43214.
