Joan E. (Harenchar) Folkens

Joan E. Folkens, 71, of Houston, died Tuesday, July 4, 2017, with her family by her side.

She was born June 10, 1946, in Marianna, a daughter of Steven and Mary Sopko Harenchar.

 Mrs. Folkens was a graduate of Beth Center High School.

She had worked at the Washington Public Assistance Office for 30 years, retiring in 2005.

Mrs. Folkens was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Houston.

She enjoyed scrapbooking, shopping, yard sales and going to the Casino.

On August 9, 1974, she married Joseph C. “Skip” Folkens, who survives.

Also surviving are: two daughters, Jacqueline Pitcock (Adam) and Jamie Folkens (Katie Collins) both of Houston; and two grandchildren, Joshua Pitcock and Olivia Folkens-Collins.

Deceased are: a brother, Steven Harenchar; and two sisters, Helen Lahosky and Maryann Hirosky.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, with Rev. Hannah Loughman officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 50 Moffett Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15243.
