Kenneth P. Carter

Kenneth P. Carter, 89, of Washington, died Tuesday, August 15, 2017.

He was born January 6, 1928 in Avella, a son of C. Brady and Kathryn Stewart Carter.

Mr. Carter was a graduate of Hickory High School and a member of the Meadow Lands United Methodist Church since 1950.

He served with the US Army from 1946 until 1948.

Mr. Carter retired in 1991 from Washington Steel where he had worked for many years.  He also worked in the produce department for Shop N Save in Canonsburg for 20 years.

He enjoyed gardening and bowling and had been a member of leagues at the Alpine Lanes and Rt. 19.

On March 4, 1950, he married Leota Haught who passed away March 23, 1996.

Surviving are four children, Alan B. Carter of Meadow Lands, Karen S. Griffith of Washington, Kevin P Carter (Lori) of Thurmont, MD and Jody L. Ellis of Washington; six grandchildren, Zachary Griffith, Jennifer Watkins (John), Kevin P. Carter Jr. (Lauren), Connor J. Carter, Johnny Ellis and Jimmy Ellis; a great grandson, Carter Thomas Watkins; a brother, William S. Carter of York; two former sons-in-law that remained very much in his life, Clyde Griffith and John “PeeWee” Ellis; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two sisters, Hazel Yeager and her husband Albert and Betty Carter; and a brother, Brady Ray Carter and his wife Katie.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, 2017 with Rev. Debra Rogosky officiating.  Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Memorial Fund of the Meadow Lands United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 126, Meadow Lands, PA 15347.
