Mary T. Tomsic Howanec, 97, of Houston, died Sunday, March 26, 2017, in the Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Twp.
She was born April 5, 1919, in Meadow Lands, a daughter of Anton and Mary Sega Tomazin.
Mrs. Howanec attended Trinity High School.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadow Lands and the Christian Mothers and Guild of the church.
Mrs. Howanec enjoyed swimming at the YWCA in Washington where she taught swim lessons. She also enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and belonged to bowling leagues in both Canonsburg and Washington.
She was a life member of the KSKJ and SNPJ both of Strabane.
On August 8, 1936, she married her first husband, Michael Tomsic who passed away on January 6, 1953. On October 1, 1954, she married Joseph Howanec who died January 9, 2000.
Surviving are five children, Michael Tomsic (the late Jeri) of Canonsburg, Jean Popovich (Jim) of Mahomet, IL, Richard Tomsic (Jan Marchezak) of Eighty Four, Joseph Howanec (Lois) of Mt. Joy and Robert Howanec (Joann) of Canonsburg; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a granddaughter, Janeen Kessler; a sister, Emma Louise Lalli; and four brothers, Anthony, Emil, Edward and Joseph Tomazin.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Thursday, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 31, 2017 in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands, with Rev. George Chortos as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery Canonsburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Christian Mothers and Guild of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church.
