Raymond J. Kohler

Raymond J. Kohler, 95, of McMurray, died Sunday, October 2, 2016, in Arden Court of Jefferson Hills.

He was born May 29, 1921, in Pittsburgh, a son of Raymond and Anna Kohler.

Mr. Kohler was a member of Center Presbyterian Church in McMurray. 

He was a 32nd Degree Mason, belonging to King Solomon’s Lodge 346 in Connellsville, and Pittsburgh Consistory.   

Raymond was a true patriot and loved his country dearly.  Mr. Kohler served in the Air Force during World War II in the 447 Group as a combat B17 pilot with 32 missions over Germany and during the Korean War at Kimpo Forward Base in Korea as an electronic counter measures officer in charge of top secret surveillance unit.  He retired from active duty in 1965.  This very modest man received many decorations and thanks.  Mr. Kohler was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the Retired Officer Association.

He also had worked for 20 years for IBM Corporation in California, New York and Pennsylvania, retiring as a senior analyst.

On May 24, 1944, in Pittsburgh, he married his beloved wife of 59 years, Emily Murphy, who died October 3, 2003.

Surviving are: a son, Richard Kohler (Beverly) of Strabane; two grandsons, Raymond Kohler and Jason Campagna (Deanna); a granddaughter, Kristina Kuhns (Cody); five great grandchildren, Peyton Kuhns and Giana Mae, Nico, Dominic and Gino Campagna; and several nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Sharon Campagna, and a sister, Vera Treece, are deceased.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Tuesday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday October 5, 2016 with Rev. Jeffrey A. Schooley officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.
