Shirley J. (Griest) Marquis

Shirley J. Marquis, 82, of Houston, formerly of Hickory, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017, in the Washington Hospital.

She was born February 21, 1935, in Washington, the daughter of Samuel and Josephine Yanavich Griest.

Mrs. Marquis was a 1952 graduate of Washington High School. 

She was employed as an operator for Bell Telephone in Washington, as well as NJK Lettering in Avella and Ringers Screen Printing in Westland. 

Mrs. Marquis was a member of the Hickory United Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

She treasured her time with family and thoroughly enjoyed her many friends.

On June 25, 1955, she married Charles R. “Bud” Marquis who died May 23, 1998.

Surviving are: three sons, Jeff Marquis (Dana) of Aliquippa, James Marquis (Elisa) of Ft. Worth, TX and Jon Marquis (Paula) of Duncansville; a daughter, Janet Marquis of Houston; eight grandchildren, Michelle Sciaretta (Charlie), Jessie Woodard (Ben), Casey Petley (Mark), Weston Marquis (Alexa), Elisa Marquis, Brandon Marquis, Amanda Flaugh (Shawn) and Jenna Marquis; and three great grandchildren, Lucca Sciaretta, Nora Petley and Joshua Woodard.

Deceased are three brothers, Samuel, Alex and Jimmy Griest.

Friends will be received from 2 to 6 pm Sunday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 am, the time of service, Monday, February 27, 2017, in Hickory United Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 210 Main Street, Hickory, PA 15340.  Interment is private.
