Donald L. Matthews, 64, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 13, 2018, of an apparent heart attack.
He was born May 26, 1954 in Washington, a son of Earnest and Thomasina Lowe Matthews.
Mr. Matthews was a 1972 graduate of Canon-McMillan School District.
He retired from Allegheny Ludlum Steel in 2016. Don was presently working as a school bus driver for the Canon-McMillan and Peters Township School Districts.
Mr. Matthews was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Canonsburg where he had served as a Trustee.
Don enjoyed working out and a member of LA Fitness.
He cherished the time he spent with family and friends.
Surviving are his daughter, Latosha Henderson (Lance, Sr.) of Crafton; two grandchildren, Lance, Jr. and Leah Rose Henderson; five brothers, John Matthews of Mercer, Charles Matthews of Washington, Mack Matthews and Dennis Matthews (Sherri) both of Canonsburg and Thomas Matthews of Springfield, MA; three sisters, Blanche McClain (James), Michelle Matthews and Pamela Matthews all of Canonsburg; four children that played a significant part in his life, Tara Armstead (Tony) and her children Tony and Tyler, Marquita Penn and her son Joshua, Adam Penn and Justin Kolba (Bonnie); and a host of nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, Michael Matthews; and two sisters, Carol and Connie Matthews.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Thursday in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2018 in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 120 Greenside Ave., Canonsburg where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Anita Lovell officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
