Emma Jean Freil, 97, of Asbury Heights, Mt. Lebanon, formerly Canonsburg, passed away Monday, October 8, 2018.
She was born July 2, 1921 in Houston, a daughter of Oscar and Jenny Shepard Cowan.
Mrs. Freil was a 1939 graduate of Canonsburg High School.
She worked as the head teller for the former Western Pennsylvania National Bank and Equibank of Houston.
Emma Jean was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Canonsburg where she was a choir member for many years.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, knitting, playing the piano and singing.
On July 26, 1942, she married Glenn A. Freil who passed away August 28, 2000.
She is survived by a son, Scott Freil and his wife Charlotte of Bridgeville; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Deceased in addition to her husband and parents are a daughter, Glenda Warehimer; a sister Francis Herron; and three brothers, Oscar, Jr., George and Bill Cowan.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2018 in the First United Methodist Church, 161 W. Pike St., Canonsburg, PA 15317, with Rev. Debra Rogosky officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342.
