Gary Openbrier

November 23, 1951 ~ June 26, 2017 (age 65) 65 Years Old


Gary Openbrier, 65, of Washington, died unexpectedly June 26, 2017, while on vacation in the Outer Banks, N. Carolina.

He was born November 23, 1951, in Washington, a son of John and Grace Anderson Openbrier.

Mr. Openbrier was a 1970 graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School.

He had worked for the Washington County Housing Authority for over 30 years, retiring in 2014.

Mr. Openbrier was a member of the Thursday Night Mixed League at Rt. 19 Bowl, presently at the Meadows.  He also enjoyed fishing, traveling to the beach and helping others.

On December 1, 1984, he married Lou Ann Prince, who survives.

Also surviving are: a brother, John “Jack” Openbrier (Betsy) of Houston; two brothers-in-law, Tom Prince (Kitty) of Addison and John Prince (Sandee) of Adena, Oh.; and many nieces and nephews who loved him.

A brother, Robert Openbrier, is deceased.

Mr. Openbrier will be sadly missed by his dog Niki.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4, the time of service, on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Washington Area Humane Society, P.O. Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330 or the American Cancer Society, 331 South Main St.,  Washington, PA 15301
