Irwin E. "Emmy" Strimel

Irwin E. “Emmy” Strimel, 91, of Houston, died Thursday, January 18, 2018 in the Washington Hospital.

He was born November 26, 1926 a son of Adlin J. and Marie DeBruxelles Strimel.

Emmy served with the US Army during World War II and was part of the occupational force in Japan.

Mr. Strimel and his brothers started Strimel Brothers Homes, building custom homes in the area and the Strimel Apartments. Emmy was in charge of design, drafting and estimating.

He was a charter member of the Chartiers Township Volunteer Fire Department and belonged to the American Legion Post 902 in Houston and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 in Canonsburg.

Mr. Strimel enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife Penny Bolek Strimel; five children, Dan Strimel (Kevinda) of Canonsburg, Bradford Strimel (Leeanne) of McDonald, Susan Fazzolari (Donald “Fuzzy”) and Sherry Bedillion (John) both of Hickory and Scott Strimel (Donna) of Houston; 12 grandchildren, Chad Strimel (Raeann), Nicole Terling (Nathan), Danielle Bombash (Tim), Eric Strimel (Jessica), Jill Strimel (Don “Bubba” Schneider), Jennifer Preston (Brian), Stacy Fazzolari, Kristen Roman (Paul), Kelly Bonal (Beyan) and James, Breanna and Jacob Strimel; 10 great grandchildren, Seth Strimel, Maverick Bombash, Gunnar Terling, Ava Strimel, Jaxson Schneider, Beric Preston, Hope Elizabeth Gillespie, Gabriel and Margo Bonal and Eden Roman; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to his parents are four sisters, Leona Turley Walborn, Mercene Swinamer Kersten, Armelia Beyer and Almaretta Shober; and three brothers, Rosier Strimel, Adlin Donald Strimel and Norman Strimel.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Sunday in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 22, 2018 with Rev. Susan Petritis officiating.  Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.  Full military rites will be accorded by the Honor Guard from VFW Post 191, Canonsburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Chartiers Township Volunteer Fire Department, 2450 W. Pike Street, Houston, PA 15342.
