Ronnie L. Wood, Sr., 75, of Clinton, MS, formerly of Houston, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 26, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born February 16, 1943, in Anniston, AL, a son of the late Curtis and Rachel Pope Wood.
A United States Army veteran, Mr. Wood served his country with the Third Infantry Division in Germany during the 1960’s.
He earned an Associate Degree in Management from Allegheny County Community College in Pittsburgh and also took several classes at Mississippi State University.
Ronnie worked for 28 years at Cooper Power Systems in Canonsburg then as a Production Manager for Cooper Lighting in Vicksburg, MS for three years, retiring from Lowe’s in Ridgeland, Mississippi in 2016.
He attended the St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Madison, MS.
Mr. Wood never met a stranger. In 2005 following Hurricane Katrina, he invited a family of 20 displaced people to his home while he and his wife Brenda volunteered for the Red Cross.
He was an avid reader, loved to dance and traveled extensively throughout the US, Canada and Mexico. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Brenda Cushey Wood; a daughter, Kristy Ann Frock of Clinton, MS; two granddaughters, Maura Cotton (James) and Allison Paige Frock both of Clinton, MS; a great granddaughter, Lydia Grace Cotton; a sister, Barbara Siskey of Oxford, AL; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Ronnie L. Wood, Jr.; five brothers, L.C., Calvin, Hoyt, Elvin and Donald Wood; and three sisters, Lillian Kirk, Louise Cushey and Catherine Reeder.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Thursday in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2018. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Full military rites will be accorded by the Honor Guard of VFW Post 191, Canonsburg.
