Rose Anna (Unicek) Freed

Rose Anna Freed, 93, of Meadow Lands, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018, in the Premier Washington Health Center.

She was born April 4, 1924 in Meadow Lands, a daughter of Louis and Rosalie Yohant Unicek.

Mrs. Freed was part of the first graduating class of Chartiers High School in 1942.

She had worked for PA Transformer in Canonsburg as a secretary.

Mrs. Freed was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church where she was a member of Christian Mothers and Guild, Rosary Society and was a 30 year volunteer secretary with the CCD program.

In 1971, she became a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Chartiers Volunteer Fire Company.

She loved spending time with her grand and great grandchildren.

On November 26, 1949, she married Robert L. Freed, who died December 31, 2011.

Surviving are: two daughters, Sharon Anne Akana (Carleton) of Kaneohe, Hawaii and Cynthia Freed of Moon Twp.; three grandchildren, Peter Vespignani, Alicia Kelch and Justin Akana; three great grandchildren, Haley and Harper Kelch and Kainalu Akana; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Janice Chehovin and Rose Mary Kosiorek whose caring will never be forgotten.

Deceased are: four brothers, Louis, Leon, Rudolph and Matthew Unicek; and a sister, Sophia Unicek, who died in infancy.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Thursday in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2018 with Rev. Carmen D’Amico as celebrant.  Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.
