Virginia D. (Holt) Turco Close

Virginia D. Turco Close, 87, of McConnells Mills, Chartiers Township, passed away peacefully in the Washington County Health Center, with her daughter Rachel by her side.

She was born December 2, 1929 in McConnells Mills, Chartiers Township, a daughter of John and Nellie McCartney Holt.

Ms. Close attended Irene’s Beauty Academy in Washington.  She worked for many years for Canonsburg Pottery and in 1970, she opened her own Nursing Home in Washington, selling in 1975 but continuing to care for several of her clients until 1977.

She spent time in Florida owning and managing motels with her then husband Ed Close.

Ms. Close was an animal lover and enjoyed polka and country western music, dancing, cooking and baking.

She was a very caring person, always with a smile on her face and helping whenever she could.

Surviving are three daughters, Sharon Turco of Germantown, TN, Shirley Allen (Mike) of Albuquerque, NM and Rachel Turco of Canonsburg; two granddaughters, Lauren Lawson and Marcia Turco; a great grandson, Tripp Lawson; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, Deak and Walter “Bud” Holt; and three sisters, Ethel Czernecki, Gladys Holt and Etta Harper.

All services are private.  Arrangements entrusted to the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342.  The family suggests memorial contributions in Virginia’s name be sent in care of the funeral home.
