Andrew “Red” Harrower Jr., 94, of Washington, formerly Cecil, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 24, 2022 in Strabane Woods.
He was born August 29, 1927 in Castle Shannon, a son of the late Andrew and Christine Payton Harrower.
Mr. Harrower attended Cecil High School and was a member of the Venice U.P. Church.
Red worked as a coal miner for Consol Energy for 32 years and as a bus driver for the Canon-McMillan School District.
He was a veteran having served with the Navy on the USS Shangri-la at the end of World War II.
Mr. Harrower was a member of the Muse Italian Club, VFW Post #191 in Canonsburg, American Legion Post #902 in Houston, Moose and Elks in Washington, Eagles Club in Warren and the Polanka Sportsman’s Club Association in Midland (Chartiers Twp.).
On April 21, 1961 he married Kathryn J. “Cass” Gardner who passed away May 28, 1994.
Surviving are a son, Scott Harrower and his wife Susan of Cecil Twp.; a daughter, Margie Kesneck and her husband Kurt of Chartiers Twp.; five grandchildren, Andrew Harrower, Kassie and Macie Kesneck, D.W. Norris and Jaclyn Norris Pryor (Andy); three great grandchildren, Jana Segatto and Haley and Sean McFarland; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Dale Norris Sr.; and two brothers, James and Alexander Harrower.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Sunday in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 28, 2022. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Gateway Hospice, 95 W. Beau Street, Washington, PA 15301.
