Donald R. Brown, 99, of Hickory, passed away peacefully, Monday, November 6, 2023 in his home.
He was born May 8, 1924, in Deckerspoint, Indiana County, a son of the late Dean and Florence McAdoo Brown.
Mr. Brown was a 1943 graduate of Marion Center High School in Marion Center, PA.
Donald was a member of the Mt. Prospect Presbyterian Church in Hickory, where he had served as a Deacon, usher and was a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School class.
He was a veteran of the US Army from October 1943 to December 1947. His service included the 29th and 78th Infantry Regiments in Germany, where he was driver for the company commander and while in the 78th, was mortar sergeant in the motor pool. He received the European Theater of Operation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter Ribbon.
Mr. Brown was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Washington Lodge #164 F & AM.
Donald was in the trucking business, with Gibbons, Eclipse Motor Lines and retired from GNC as a driver. He had also worked for Greyhound Bus Lines and Central Cab Bus Lines. Mr. Brown was a member and past president of the PMTA.
On August 26, 1950, he married Mary Louise Cooper who died February 11, 2015.
Surviving are a son, Donald Brown Jr. with whom he resided; a daughter Nancy Louise Woodard and her husband Randall of Douglasville, GA; a grandson, Peter Woodard; a sister, Betty Learn; two brothers, James and Gary Brown; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Bernaun Brown and Beryle Brown; and three sisters, Mary Dillon, Ruth Reithmiller and Eleanor Banok.
All services are private and have been entrusted to McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342.
