Edith Bernard Obituary

Edith Antonietta Bernard, 106, formerly of Houston and Hickory, died Sunday, February 19, 2023, in Strabane Woods of Washington.

She was born May 5, 1916, in Chartiers Township, a daughter of Stephen and Theresa Ariagno Antonietta.

Edith attended the McConnells Mills School in Chartiers Township.

She was a member of St. Oscar Romero Parish, St. Patrick Church in Canonsburg and the Chartiers Township Senior Group.

Mrs. Bernard, enjoyed crocheting, gardening, playing bingo, traveling, spending many winters in Pinellas Park, Florida, but most of all she loved the time spent with her family.

On August 14, 1934, in Wellsburg, WV, she married Louis Bernard who passed away April 23, 2003.

Surviving are a daughter, Carol Cox of Eighty Four; daughter-in-law, Priscilla Bernard of Hickory; four grandchildren, Michael Bernard (Denise), Michelle Helfer (A.J.) and Eric and Jeff Cox; six great grandchildren, Renee and Alex Bernard, James and Jessica Cox and Allison and Anna Helfer; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a son John Bernard; son-in-law Ken Cox; three brothers, Emil, Pete and George Antonietta; and four sisters, Albina Adamsky, Helen Rodgers, Theresa Fridey and Margaret Zemprelli.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 23, 2023, in St. Patrick Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish, Canonsburg, PA.  Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Strabane Woods and Suncrest Hospice for the exceptional care even during the pandemic.
