Edmund P. Likar, 94, of West Finley, formerly Houston, died Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in the Washington Hospital.
He was born November 10, 1927 in Avella, a son of Paul and Mary Dolinar Likar.
Mr. Likar was a 1945 graduate of Avella High School. Graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1958 and in 1960 graduated from the D.T. Watson School of Physiatrics.
He served with the US Army during the Korean War with some time stationed in Germany.
Ed worked 30 years at the Washington Hospital, retiring as Chief Physical Therapist in 1990.
He was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church of the St. Oscar Romero Parish in Meadow Lands.
Ed enjoyed spending time with his family on their farm in W. Finley where they raised Black Angus and Red Poll beef cattle and grew and harvested strawberries.
Mr. Likar was a former member of the Cattleman’s Association and the American Farmers Association.
He was an avid Notre Dame football fan and enjoyed the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On September 2, 1957 he married Gloria Bier who passed away November 10, 2019.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan Likar Piecknick of Houston; two sons, Paul A. Likar (Julie) of Bridgeville and Mark Likar (Laura) of Butler; five grandchildren, Sarah and Ryan Piecknick and Rachel, Alexander and Joshua Likar; a brother, Ronald Likar (Jean) of Houston; and several nieces and nephews.
A brother William Likar is deceased.
Friends will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2021 in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 300 Pike St., Meadow Lands, PA 15347. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.
