Emery Yuhas Obituary

Emery Yuhas Sr., 88, of Hickory, passed away, Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in McMurray Hills Manor with his family at his side.

He was born April 27, 1935, in Westland, a son of Stephen and Rosella Yesterby Yuhas.

Emery attended Chartiers High School and finished his education while serving with the US Navy.  He served with the Navy during the Korean War from June of 1952 until April of 1956. While in the Navy, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal.

In 1959, he graduated from West Penn Technical School.

Mr. Yuhas was a foreman in the Electric Finish Department for McGraw-Edison and Cooper Power Systems, retiring in 1992.   He was also a self-employed Electrical Inspector and a member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors.

Emery was a member of St. Oscar Romero Parish, St. Patrick Church and a former member of the Westland Sportsman’s Club.

With his wife, they enjoyed going to the casino and visiting Las Vegas when they could.

On October 26, 1957, he married Elizabeth Ann Szallar who survives.

Also surviving are five children, Kimberly Federoff (Jeffrey) of Houston, Emery Yuhas Jr. (Laura) of Oakdale, Todd Yuhas (Robin) of Southview, Dawn Marie Yuhas of Carnegie and Dean Yuhas (Kelly) of Canonsburg; 13 grandchildren, Ashleigh Yuhas (Erik Sassone), Kristen Yuhas, Jordan Yuhas, Samantha Curtis (Tyler), Stephanie Yuhas, Grace Patberg, Joshua Yuhas, Kaitlyn Yuhas, Brandon Shields (Kara), Jessica Sherbondy (Scott), Connor Shields (Jillian), Kieran Firment (Barrett Leone) and Keaton Firment; two great grandchildren, Cecilia and Camden Curtis; a sister, Barbara Tuzzo of Las Vegas, NV; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to his parents are five brothers, Steve, John, Frank, Joseph and his twin Louis Yuhas; and two sisters, Julia Brower and Elizabeth Fife. 

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 Monday in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342, where a Blessing Service will be held a 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2024.  Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.  Military rites will be accorded by the Honor Guard from VFW Post #191, Canonsburg.   

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or stjude.org.
