Eugene H. "Pooge" Cruny

Eugene H. “Pooge” Cruny, 81, of Avella, passed away peacefully, Monday, April 25, 2022, in McMurray Hills Manor, with his family by his side.

He was born August 18, 1940, in White Plains, NY, a son of the late John and Wanda Gevenosky Cruny.

Pooge was a 1958 graduate of Avella High School, where he played football and baseball.

Mr. Cruny retired from J & L Steel Aliquippa Works, where he had worked for many years.

Gene was an avid bowler and horseshoe pitcher.  He enjoyed going to Mountaineer Casino to dance and meet friends, hunting and taking his beagle dogs on walks in the woods.

Surviving are a brother, Edward Cruny and his wife Kathy of Colliers, WV; a sister, Sharon Wilson and her husband Garry of Houston; two nieces, Dana McCurdy (Chris) and Kylee Stevens (Brandon); two nephews, Todd Cruny (Becky) and Gary Lindley; and great nephews and nieces, Nicholas and William Cruny, Ella and Sophia Viviano and Emma and Ezra Heldermon.

Deceased in addition to his parents are a brother John “Brown Dog” Cruny and a sister, Charlotte “Shy” Lindley.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation or services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Avella Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box G, Avella, PA 15312.
