Evelyn Joyce (Nelo) Funka

Evelyn Joyce Nelo Funka, 90, of Waynesburg, formerly Houston, transitioned peacefully, Tuesday, December 29, 2020.

She was born March 19, 1930 in Bellefonte, PA, one of eight children of Charles and Frances Bruno Nelo.

Evelyn was a graduate of Bellefonte High School and worked as an office manager for Robinson Pipe Cleaning Co. for more than 35 years, retiring in 1992.

Tootsie to her husband, she was also known as Ev, Eve or Evie to her friends and family and Ma and Grandy by her children and grandchildren.  Although she went by many names, she had only ONE recipe for Italian Wedding Soup and loved to gather the family to enjoy it.

She loved to travel to Italy and enjoy a good wine. Her enjoyments included Disney, spending winters in Florida, Tom Selleck, mystery novels and classic crime shows.   She loved playing card games, dominoes, going on walks and swimming (but never getting her hair wet).  Evelyn had a contagious laugh, a beautiful voice and loved singing.  She always enjoyed the finer things in life, along with a good glass of bubbly.

On July 3, 1950, she married Marlin David Funka who crossed over October 11, 2018.

Surviving are her children, Thomas Funka of Encampment, WY, Susan Petery (Robert) of Waynesburg and Michael Funka (Elizabeth) of West Alexander; she is alive in the hearts of seven grandchildren, Dea Wilczek, Dayle helicke, Jesse Rose Petery, Barrett Funka, Emily Petery, Claire Funka and Michael W. Funka; two great grandchildren, Auburn and Everest Flinchum; a sister, Rita Hall of Julian; a brother, Richard Nelo of York; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, preceding her in transition were four sisters, Julia Clark, Rose Harvey, Mary Tressler and Dorothy Nelo; and a brother, Charles Nelo Jr.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation or service.
