Jacquelyn H. Umphrey, 80, of Strabane, passed away, Thursday, December 31, 2020 in the Washington Hospital.
She was born January 1, 1940 in Canonsburg, a daughter of Ernest and Sarah Morton Lindsey.
Mrs. Umphrey was a graduate of East Washington High School. She had worked at St. Clair and Washington Hospitals and retired from the Intermediate Unit I, where she had worked as an aid for 30 years.
Jackie was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Canonsburg where she had been a youth Sunday School teacher.
She was a Silver Sneaker and liked knitting, crocheting, baking, making her potato salad and fried chicken and worrying over everyone in the family.
On July 6, 1963 she married George C. Umphrey who died November 13, 1984.
Surviving are two daughters, Stephanie Rose and her husband Alan of Goose Creek, SC and Patti Abington and her husband Dennis of College Station, TX; four grandchildren, Matthew Rose (Jess Trent), Taylor Rose (Jonathan James) and Sydney and Elijah Abington; one great granddaughter, Cadence Rose; a near adoptive daughter, Deanne Lober (Brian) of Strabane; special friend of 30 years, Howard “Bus” Lovell of Houston; special in laws, Donald Umphrey and his wife Betty of West Middletown; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to her husband and parents are six sisters, Betty “Mikey” Batch, Nellie Morton-Gallimore, Dorothy (Nancy) Horton, Mildred Campbell, and infant twins, Dawn and Molly Lindsey; and three brothers, Joseph and Richard Morton and James “Ordie” Lindsey.
Due to present circumstances, all services will be private. A celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later date.
