Lester Stevenson, 94, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 16, 2022, in his home.
He was born January 28, 1928, in Merryville, LA, a son of Johnnie and Ida Mae Ashworth Stevenson.
Lester served with the US Army from 1951 to 1957 where he was a Tank Commander with Co B 72nd Tank Battalion in Camp Irwin, CA.
Following his service, he was a bus driver and mechanic for the Barstow Unified School District in Barstow, CA, a mechanic and shop foreman for Yellow Freight from 1979 to 1986 and worked in Civil Service as a supply clerk at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Barstow, CA from 1986 until his retirement in 2001.
He was an avid golfer and bowler.
Surviving are four children, Lester Stevenson Jr. (Annette) of Fleming Island, FL, Carolyn Hagan (Melvin) of Canonsburg, John Douglas Stevenson of Dallas, TX and Wanda Peel of Anchorage, AK; and many grand, great and great great grandchildren.
Deceased are a son Gerald Stevenson and a brother Clifton Stevenson.
Friends will be received from Noon to 1:00 p.m., the time of service, Wednesday, June 29, 2022. Interment will be private in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
Full military rites will be accorded by the Honor Guard from VFW Post 191 in Canonsburg.
