Marylyn F. Byers, 87, of Houston, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, April 26, 2024.
She was born February 1, 1937, in Brookline, a daughter of the late George Shaffer and Winnifred Mahen Verner
Marylyn was a 1955 graduate of Canonsburg High School.
Mrs Byers had worked as an accountant for H & R Block and Liberty Lumber both in Canonsburg.
She was an active member of the Chartiers Hill United Presbyterian Church, where she had served as an Elder, Deacon and for many years, Librarian.
Marylyn was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Chartiers Chapter #97 Order of the Eastern Star in Canonsburg.
She was an avid knitter, having donated over 1000 prayer shawls to the Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh and many others to area hospitals.
On January 16, 1957, she married Robert K. Byers who died March 9, 1999.
Surviving are three children, Cynthia Stonick (Edward) of Dawson, Beth Byers (Paul Komar) of Lexington, MA and Robert Byers (Bridget Jenkins) of Bridgeville; nine grandchildren, Melissa Woodall (John), Sarah Kraski (Richard), Robin Strnisha (Jason), Stephanie Campbell (Kevin), Elizabeth Komar, and Alexis, Abigail, Joshua and Jacob Byers; six great grandchildren, Anita, Jett, Taylor, Rosemary, Connor and Rory; son in law, Donald C. Austin of Washington; sister in law, Nancy Rusmisel of Claysville; and a brother in law, Charles Laughlin of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceases are a daughter, Sharon Austin; and two sisters Winnifred Laughlin and Pamela Grabe.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2024, in the Chartiers Hill United Presbyterian Church, 2230 Washington Rd., Canonsburg, PA 15317 with Rev. Peggy Shannon officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Chartiers Hill U. P. Church.
