Mildred Worstell Obituary

Mildred M. Worstell, 106 years, 8 months and 4 days old, long-time resident of Canonsburg, died peacefully, Saturday, October 8, 2022 with her family by her side at home in Strabane Woods.

She was born February 4, 1916, in Houston, a daughter of George and Rachel May Williams.

Mildred was a 1933 graduate of Bridgeville High School and worked for her Uncle at Taylor’s Drug Store in Canonsburg.

Mrs. Worstell was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Canonsburg where she belonged to the Gleaners Class, taught Sunday School, and helped with cooking dinners for many church functions as well as the Canonsburg-Houston Meals on Wheels.

She was a member of the Silver Sneakers, the Bethany U.P. Church Quilters, and had been a member of the former Gredale Club that was associated with the YMCA.

Mildred enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and hand quilting.

On January 15,1941, she married Ross J. Worstell who died June 13, 1999.

Surviving are four sons, Robert D. Worstell (Nancy) and Ronald A. Worstell (Carol) both of Canonsburg, W. Paul Worstell (Patricia) of Findlay, OH and Harry R. Worstell of Florham Park, NJ; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to her husband and parents are a son, James R. Worstell; brother, Robert Williams; three stepbrothers, Walter, Wilbert and William Schafer; and a step sister, Ruth Ann Porter.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 Thursday, 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 Friday in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342.  Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2022, in the First United Methodist Church, 161 W. Pike St., Canonsburg, PA 15317.  Interment will be private.

The family would like to thank the staff of Strabane Woods and Gateway Hospice for their excellent care.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church or the charity of one’s choice.
