He was born July 18,1958, in Canonsburg, a son of Thomas Shaffer of Houston and the late Betty Tiernan-Shaffer.
Steven was a 1976 graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School.
He proudly served his country for several years in the Pennsylvania National Guard, first in Washington, then in Johnstown and had served for 18 months in Kosovo with a US Army security mission. He retired several years ago.
He enjoyed attending car shows at Carlisle and Harrisburg several times a year in his 30 ft motor home, with his close friend Bob. He also enjoyed “MASH” and his TV and stereo systems.
Surviving in addition to his father are; a daughter, Heather Shaffer of Washington; four grandchildren, Julia, Christopher, Ian, and Joseph; two great grandsons, David and Jaxson; a brother John (Christine) of Washington; a nephew, Daniel; and 2 nieces, Elizabeth and Abigail. He is greatly missed by his beloved black lab, Shadow, his daughter adopted.
Friends will be received from 11 to 1, the time of service, Thursday, January 26, 2023, in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. Interment is private in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp.
