Virginia Arthur, 94, of Houston, formerly Chartiers Township, passed away, Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in the McMurray Hills Manor with her family at her side.
She was born August 29, 1921 in Washington, a daughter of Archie W. and Florence McKarahan Hall.
Mrs. Arthur retired from the Washington Hospital where she had worked as a secretary.
She ran her own beauty salon from her home on McClane Farm Road in Chartiers Twp.
Mrs Arthur was very active in her community. She served on the resident council of the Heritage House in Houston and was president for several years. She worked for the local election precinct and was a member of the McClane Farm Road Good Neighbors Club.
Mrs. Arthur had formerly been involved with 4H and as a Cub Scout Den mother.
She loved quilting and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate and Steeler fan.
Surviving are three children, William R. Hall (Carolyn) of Milner, GA, Thomas E. Arthur (Tamera) of Carthage, NC and Donna S. Slesh of Canonsburg; 10 grandchildren, J.R. Hall (Teresa), Brandon Hall (Sarah), Brian Hall, Trenda Lowry (Brian), Terrah Carawan (Jonathan), Thomas A. Arthur (Jenni), Teresah Arthur, Timothy Arthur (Valerie), Tonya Sabin (Jason) and J.D. Slesh; 21 great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Wright of Canonsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are her husband Glenn Arthur; three brothers, Gilbert “Jack”, Alfred “Piney” and Archie “Bill” Hall; and four sisters, Nancy White, Florence “Honey” Ermacoff, Elizabeth “Tim” Hampson and Katherine Read.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Saturday in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, April 24, 2016 with Rev. Frank McGary officiating. Interment will be private.
